my backyard

Welcome to BackYardAdvice!

Owning a backyard is the equivalent of having a private oasis available for you and your family to use at any hour of the day. Most homes offer a backyard in some capacity these days. Of course, buying a house generally means you will get a larger area of land, but owners of apartments and condominiums shouldn’t feel discouraged. Even a tiny plot of land is enough to create the perfect outdoor space for any individual in need of one.

The most appealing part of a backyard is that it essentially becomes an extension of your home. Depending on what the theme of your home decor is, you can carry out that same aesthetic to your backyard with a unique landscaping design!

If you have children, you might want your backyard to be clean, sparse, and full of wide-open spaces for the kids to run around. Consider installing a flower bed to brighten things up. You’ll want a lively area for your kids and their friends to play in. They can play in so many games such as bocce ball, wiffle ball, spikeball, lots of giant game, etc. Backyards are an excellent place to add trampolines, jungle gyms, and more.

Build a treehouse if you live in a wooded area. Kids love having a place they can escape to that feels like a home away from home, and the bonding experience you’ll get from working together with your whole family will create memories that last for a lifetime.

They’ll be grateful you helped them create such a cool space to hang out in with their friends, and it’ll help get them out of the house during those long summer months away from school. If built correctly, a treehouse can last for decades!

When I was in elementary school, we had enough space in our backyard to rent a bounce house. My parents did just that for my eighth birthday party. To this day, it is one of the best birthday parties I’ve ever had.

More ideas for children’s’ birthday parties include hosting a campout complete with tents, sleeping bags, and roasted marshmallows! You could even rent a projection screen to show a movie outdoors. There’s no need to have a bunch of children trampling through your freshly cleaned house when you have a vast open space outside.

Even if your space isn’t all that big, there are ways you can work in a confined area. You can hire professionals like us to take a look at the space and decide what it could best accommodate.

For the social butterfly, backyards an excellent hang-out spot when you want company. Build a fire pit and throw a barbecue. During the chillier months, it can become the go-to hang out place in the neighborhood. Who doesn’t like sitting with friends around a bonfire? You’ll be the envy of all your neighbors.

The eco-friendly folks can consider adding a pond to their yard. If you don’t have a fence, a pond might even attract wildlife such as deer. Nature can help engineer amazing picture-perfect memories from the comfort of your own yard.

Along those lines, adding a birdbath, hummingbird feeder, or pollinator plants can turn your backyard into a sanctuary for wildlife.

Even with a privacy fence, a pond filled with koi fish is a beautiful addition to anyone’s yard and can help foster a sense of tranquility. Koi ponds make an excellent addition to any sanctuary. A babbling brook or fountain could add the right amount of ambiance for lazy days spent reading outdoors.

Speaking of tranquility, many people like to add gardens to their backyard. In addition to sprucing up space, pops of color can turn a drab backyard into a vibrant one teeming with wildlife.

You might not realize how many types of gardens are available. If you have concerns about tearing up the grass, container gardens have become quite popular. They are above-ground, easy to maintain, and can host any number of plant-life and vegetation. Herbs are a great addition to any container garden.

But if you don’t mind digging up the grass a little, then fencing off a small area of the yard for a flower patch is always a possibility. It doesn’t take many tools to do so either. As long as you have a shovel, spade, and gardening gloves, you’ve already got a good head start. Imagine being able to grow your herbs and vegetables to make homecooked meals taste even better!

Backyards give you the freedom to mold the space into whatever you desire it to be. The confines of an interior setting do not restrict you.

My site can aid you in manifesting your dreams with helpful hints and landscaping guides, whether your yard is an enclosed and intimate spot, or a spacious plain for friends to gather on.

Remember, backyards don’t have to be enclosed entirely either. Many people like to have multi-functional yards that include cordoned off sections, such as a patio, or deck, with netting to keep it sheltered from weather and bugs, and then an additional space in the actual grass. This way you can stay away from mosquitoes during the summer nights yet still enjoy the warmth of the night.

You can always add additional adornments, such as lighting. Tiki torches pair great with a barbecue pit or grilling area. But there are other options, especially if you’re someone with an aquatic fantasy and like the idea of getting a backyard pool and hot tub. Lights can be installed into the ground or to the walls of your home to keep it from being blanketed by the darkness so your parties can go all night!

There are so many things one can do with a backyard. Think of it as an outdoor creative space meant to nurture your interests not suitable for the indoors.

We have plenty of options here to help you figure out what would make the best and most comfortable setting for you so that you can turn any drab piece of land into a space befitting you, your family, and the home design you’ve chosen!
